About Me

Mike's Notes

I wrote this a few years ago. The photo needs to be replaced by something more recent. Eventually, this page will shift to Redworks. Redworks is about me, while Ajabbi is about you.

About Me

By: Mike Peters
On a Sandy Beach: 07/04/2019

Mike is the inventor and architect of Pipi and the founder of Ajabbi.

My name is Mike Peters. I’m an artist, software designer, and former metal worker passionate about science.

Starting in 1997, I spent 10 years building Pipi, a private cloud platform in NZ, and now, after a 10-year absence, I have returned to the fold.

But the world of IT has changed, and I need to learn new skills. This blog is where I keep all my notes to help me remember while working on Pipi.

Now, it turns out that I'm blatantly autistic and dyslexic (Dysgraphia). It takes me forever to write, spell and get the grammar right without the help of a spell checker, Grammarly, or my clever wife.

That also means I have a detailed 3d visual model in my head for everything I have designed since age 4. A long time ago, I created and then built Pipi 4, an 800-table database-driven national biodiversity platform with 500 objects and 3,000 methods using that trick. There was no version control and little technical documentation.

Then, in 2017, I rebuilt Pipi from memory as Pipi 6, and now Pipi 9 is an order of magnitude bigger, with hardly any documentation —just colour-coded doodles. To solve this, I'm getting Pipi to self-document.

However, inventing, designing and doing crazy stuff no one else would think of is as easy as eating chocolate cake, so I'm not complaining. I do this through the practice and deliberate use of synesthesia, especially kinesthetic synesthesiamirror-touch synesthesia and hyperphantasia. Everything in my mind is just one big 3D movie that I can fly around in and explore.

I work like an artist, not an engineer, and I work from intuition rather than logic. Daydreaming is a superpower. Lucky, I like nana naps.

Besides, I cheat a little. I use visual IDEs, diagramming tools, and loads of code generators, and I can always get someone else to do the user documentation.

Command-line - Nah - another job for someone else.
